With Special Guest Ben Coury, Political Pundit and Entrepreneur!

For this episode, the Buddies are joined by national Man of Mystery and Mike’s oldest friend from high school, Mr. Benjagamin Coury (his pronunciation). He’s many things: Scholar. Political Theorist. Web Designer. Former Store Manager of a Certain Evil Cell Phone Retailer. And he’s blowing the whistle on EVERYTHING.

OK, some of that isn’t true.

What, maybe he’s not really a scholar?!

Actually, the Buddies get political for a hot damn minute (or twenty), and their guest shares some great methods to research politics in an unbiased way, as well as his predictions for how this Presidential race will play out.

The evils of sales and retail employment also get explored at length, and there’s even a happy ending for our erstwhile guest host. Awwwwww. And hey, the number of people who don’t want children actually outnumber the parents in this episode!

Plus- Video game and Dungeons & Dragons nostalgia! Pony rides! Grappa! The bizarre meta-ending of Big Bang Theory!

But you know what you’ll remember the most? All of the laughter…

Tasmanian Devil Face Cancer

Woah Nelly, does this episode start out dark! Mike delves into the insanity of a recent death in the family, and the Buddies attempt to find humor in it where they can. More of Mike’s cult background is also discussed. ‘Cuz that’s funny, right?

Right?!

Things move on to lighter fare when S’Mike provides one last box of childhood detritus for the Buddies to mine, and boy is it ever filled with… stuff. Some of which is disintegrating.

A strong-but-delicious drink recipe is tested and is found to pass muster, especially with hipsters. Also the podcast title is explained.

Humor!

With Hilarious Special Guest Abby Devuyst, the Busiest Woman In Showbiz!!!

The Buddies are joined by good friend and fellow Unleashed Improv veteran Addy Devuyst, an actress and comedienne performing in no less than 40 shows during the 10-day Rochester Fringe Festival.

That’s as exhausting as it is impressive!

Marvel at Abby’s sparkling wit as she proves both her geek and Greek cred to the Buddies, relays her first “S’Mike performing in sweatpants” experience and explains just how insane participating in a Fringe Festival can be.

Also covered: performing in a full hot tub, Zombie Broadway, shrimp with Fabio’s hair and a delicious new drink concoction.

And as always, dear listener… Comedy! Ribaldry! And cockamamie stories!

Kanpai!

In true Japanese drinking fashion, the Buddies tie one on with the assistance of two bottles of good sake. They drink wayyyyyyy more than usual, and by the end… out come the awkward prom date stories.

That being said, go ahead and file this episode under “educational.” What? Drunk AND informative? How can this be?! S’mike, a certified sake expert, shares tons of info about making and drinking sake, including drinking rituals, types of rice and even who pours when. Also, he explains the exact way that gas prices are calculated.

Neeeeeeeeerd alert.

The Buddies then dig into Mike’s Shoebox of Detritus, left over from high school and college. Hint: he liked knives as a younger man.

Other topics covered include booze for giant monsters, the douchey archaeologists who dug up the fabled buried Atari cartridges and S’mike’s drunken rant about poor industrial design. Seriously, never has a pencil sharpener received such a tongue-thrashing.

Somehow, the Buddies find time for comedy as well. It’s a longer episode than usual, but you can turn this into a drinking game- just take a drink every time Mike flubs a word!

Wallet Archaeology, or “The Evolution of S. Michael Smith”

S’mike provides a rare gem, allowing the Buddies to mine his high school and college wallet, untouched for many a year. Seriously, no man should have this many-

-kind of horrific, am I right?

Also discussed: romantic dilemmas with video game sorceresses, awkward true life break-up stories and the virtues of living on Long Island vs. Staten Island. Assuming you think that there are any…

War Stories

Ever wonder what it was like working in a video store? Do you dream of delivering pizza? Well, Buddies In Space crush your dreams and steal your wonderment! Wait, somehow that doesn’t sound right…

The Buddies relay their very best (and most ridiculous) recollections from their college jobs, complete with car jackings, customers who think they’re invisible, life before GPS and trailer park hierarchy.

Learn Mike’s mathematical formula for how to conduct a cost-benefit analysis on video game value. Feel sad sadness when S’mike shares how he exhausted every video rental in his small town due to loneliness…

Also, grill fires! Mazes and Monsters! Rib membrane removal!

The the Buddies even figure out what exactly is going on inside of a Red Box. Warning: You. Will. Be. Shocked.

And of course rants, riffs and humor. Mustn’t forget about those!

With Special Guests Colin the Vampire Viking and Stuuuuuuuuuu!

The Buddies are joined by Colin the Vampire Viking, in his second BIS guest appearance, along with his long-time friend Stu Allen, two former members of horror movie podcast “The Death of Horror.”

Horror movies and tropes get discussed and dissected, Mike drudges up one of his craziest NYC stories yet and Bragg’s Apple Cider drinks are tasted aplenty. Spoiler: they’re not half bad.

Also, Colin and Stu relay their curious tendency to get “two-spooned” when ordering a dessert at a restaurant…

Stu didn’t get to talk much, so savor his every word. Enjoy!

The 80’s vs the 90’s

The Buddies host the Battle of the Century, pitting the 80’s against the 90’s for decade supremacy with a little help from Trivial Pursuit.

Which was the better decade? Who has forgotten more? Only Buddies In Space can tell!

Also, tangents. So very, very many tangents.

And DON’T FORGET about our Calling All Writers blog post- give us your embarrassingly bad short stories and poems so we can do dramatic readings of them in a future episode!

A Litany of Pain

The Buddies dive deep into graphics card dick-measuring, garage sales and the most ridiculous video game controller ever devised by mankind (hint: look at the pic). The not-so-great drink recipe from the previous episode is corrected, and gosh darn it, it tastes pretty good! Also, Mike recounts the time that Susan Lucci stabbed him with her Daytime Emmy.

Before you ask- Yes, that is actually a true story.

Mike and S’mike also compare their educations on the Civil War since they went to grade school on both sides of the Mason Dixon line. S’mike then shows his age by not really understanding what a podcast actually is.

Will S’Mike be able to decide who was “right” during the Civil War? What secret toy-related sound effect did Mike hide in the podcast to entice S’mike to listen to his own damned voice?? Will Mike ever stop over-stating the listenership size of Marc Maron’s podcast?!?!?!?!?!?!

There’s only way to find out, dear Buddies- listen now!

Also, DON’T FORGET about our Calling All Writers blog post- give us your embarrassingly bad short stories and poems so we can do dramatic readings of them later this summer!

Barq’s and Black Holes

Buddies In Space returns to outer space- Finally!

Join the Buddies as S’mike recounts ANOTHER college spring break trip in which he failed to get laid (seriously, was this guy in college for a decade?!), Mike rants about being torn over a certain Christopher Nolan space epic and the subversive, subliminal genius of Stanley Kubrick gets recognized.

At least two bizarre alcoholic beverage recipes are provided for your drinking… “pleasure.” And S’mike shares a litany of old man noises!

Also included is the Buddies In Space call to action: “Calling All Writers!” You can read more and submit your original material here.
